VisualMED application modules

The VisualMED System is a Repository-based Clinical Toolset that enables doctors and nurses to practice a higher quality of medicine and, at the same time, reduces healthcare costs.

VisualMED modules include:

VisualMD

VisualMD is an expert electronic physician order entry system designed to function on multiple wards and departments of a hospital. VisualMD replaces manual, paper-based order entry on the hospital ward. VisualMD reviews all (electronic) MD prescriptions dynamically and suggests alternative courses of therapy based on decision trees which can be modified by individual client hospitals. Data used in VisualMD algorithms comes from nursing data input, patient demographics, and laboratory data - both numeric and text. Prescriptions are legible and dosages are calculated on the basis of individual patient parameters. Doctors find laboratory results easily; charts don't get lost and all members of the ward team have concurrent access to the same information. VisualMD archives all input, which can be retrieved by the System Administrator in real time for quality control audit. Physician orders generated in VisualMD are transmitted directly into the Nursing kardex and care plan (see below VisualNURSE). In the teaching environment VisualMD comes with a suite of "electronic patients" whose "results" and "prescriptions" can be modified by student "prescribers." VisualNURSE

VisualNURSE is an electronic nursing tool integrally related to VisualMD. VisualNURSE replaces manual, paper-based nursing data entry and creates the Nursing Kardex, Nursing Care Plan, and dynamic Activity Schedule. VisualNurse rationalizes Nursing activities so nurses have more time to spend at the bedside taking care of patients. A unique user interface allows individual wards to handle nursing duties in a flexible manner specific to that particular ward, as determined by the nursing staff, themselves. VisualNURSE obviates the need for duplicate charting and verification of formerly paper-based data entry. Make-work is reduced and more time is available for direct patient contact. The nursing workload can be more equitably distributed through a flexible, system-determined "Acuity Point" score which allows rational personnel scheduling, and through which, "acuity levels" can be attached to specific diagnoses or diagnostic groups. Nurses use VisualNURSE to maintain the nursing hospital record, which is transparently available for discharge-planning and medical and para-medical consultation.

VisualCHART

VisualCHART is a complete, vertical electronic chart allowing data views adjusted for the needs of individual user classes, linked to VisualMD and VisualNURSE. VisualCHART replaces the paper chart and allows for the entry of coded as well as text data, lending itself to quality control review and/or clinical investigation integrated with clinical care. Repeated entry of the same data from encounter to encounter is reduced to a minimum, and the chart itself can be accessed and updated faster than using the traditional, paper-based dossier.

VisualSURGEON

VisualSURGEON is an expert electronic surgical order entry system designed to function on multiple surgical wards and departments of a hospital. VisualSURGEON replaces manual, paper-based order entry at the level of the surgeon and the trainee. VisualSURGEON functions similarly to VisualMD except that the algorithms and user cues are tailored to surgical practice. VisualPEDIATRICS

VisualPEDIATRICS supports the pediatric services of a hospital, handling dosing formats and constraints unique to the specialty, as well as providing effective decision support. VisualPEDIATRICS eliminates paper-based order entry and gives pediatricians a comprehensive view of their patient’s status. Each patient record is updated in real time with clinical input so that the most current information is always at hand. VisualONCOLOGY

VisualONCOLOGY is an expert electronic physician order entry system designed to function on the Oncology ward or service of a hospital already using VisualMD. VisualONCOLOGY replaces manual, paper-based order entry at the level of the physician and the trainee for the prescription of chemotherapy. VisualONCOLOGY functions similarly to VisualMD except that additional algorithms and user cues are tailored to the practice of oncology. Through its unique user interface, VisualONCOLOGY maintains the various chemotherapeutic protocols in an easy-to-use format which can be customized. Safety overrides prevent inadvertent dosing errors. Patients benefit because complex, multi-disciplinary care is provided in the context of improved communication among care team members. VisualONCOLOGY stores custom-selected information to file, facilitating the work of the protocol data manager and maintains a quality control audit.

VisualER

VisualER is an expert electronic physician order entry system for use in the Emergency Department of a hospital. VisualER replaces manual, paper-based order entry at the level of the physician and the trainee. VisualER functions similarly to VisualMD except that the algorithms and user cues are tailored to Emergency Department medical and surgical practice. As well, it contains emergency "protocols" to facilitate rapid order entry in a busy department. VisualADMIN

VisualADMIN is an electronic record that integrates all VisualMED medical, laboratory, imaging, and administrative, and demographic data. VisualADMIN accesses all clinical intra-institutional data sources and makes this data transparently available to clinical users throughout the facility. Relevant data is thus shared across all modules requiring access, in such a fashion that only information relevant to a given application is displayed at the time of use. VisualADMIN provides system access so client hospitals can write their own clinical algorithms and/or modify those supplied with the system.
