The VisualMED system - VisualALERTS and Decision Support
VisualMED delivers a powerful set of tools that reduce Adverse Drug Events and alert the physician to important changes in patient status.
VisualMED alerts and warnings are integrated into the order-entry sequence and may be invoked by background processes, independent of current user activity. Alerts and warnings are displayed at a number of points in the order entry cascade and make use of available clinical, laboratory and demographic information. An alert may display a set of laboratory results linked to the class of drugs to which the current prescription-in-progress is attached. At a more complex level, clinical contraindications may be brought to the attention of the prescriber during the order-entry process, and VisualMED may suggest appropriate prescription alternatives. When alerts and warnings are the product of a background process, the process updates its "trigger status" whenever new clinical or laboratory information is received by the system and alerts physicians and nurses to potentially serious problems through prominently displayed screen icons. Individual clinicians may also be notified by wireless communication.
Clinical administrators may use VisualMED decision-support to create site-specific academic content to suit local practice norms. The alerts and warnings content may be tailored to the needs of any of the individual clinical modules in VisualMED.
All clinical modules of VisualMED are delivered with a fully functional set of embedded tools that capture potential errors at the point of prescription, or, in the case of background processes, proactively alert the clinical team to changes in the patient’s condition.
